Israel has declared that the military campaign it has launched against Iran is much more than a momentary strike. A senior Israeli official, in a statement to the Wall Street Journal, said that the operation was planned to be spread over 14 days and that the targets were not limited to nuclear facilities.
''EFFECTIVE AND LONG-TERM DAMAGE''
The official stated that it was not possible to simultaneously target Iran's nuclear program, missile arsenals, and military leadership cadre with single-wave attacks. He expressed that Israel has therefore adopted a more comprehensive and sustainable military strategy.
The objectives of the operation against Iran include paralyzing the nuclear infrastructure, dismantling the military chain of command, and weakening Iran's potential retaliatory capacity from the outset. The official said that this strategy was previously applied against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and that a similar method is being used to attempt to establish a military and political balance in Iran as well.
The Israeli official also stated that the military campaign is designed not only as a retaliation but also as a pressure tool to force Iran into a political solution. However, how Iran will respond will be the most critical factor in determining the direction of the process.
TEHRAN AND NATANZ TARGETED
As part of the attack, Israel carried out numerous airstrikes in the early hours of the morning against the Iranian capital Tehran, Tabriz, the Natanz nuclear facility in Isfahan, and the cities of Lorestan and Kermanshah. One of the most notable targets was Natanz. Known as one of Iran's most important facilities with the potential for nuclear weapons development, Natanz was subjected to heavy bombardment.
In the attacks, Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, one of the top names in the Iranian military, and Revolutionary Guards Commander Major General Hossein Salami lost their lives. It was also announced that 6 nuclear scientists who held critical roles in Iran's nuclear program were killed in the attacks.
CIVILIANS ALSO LOST THEIR LIVES
In Israel's operations in Tehran, not only military points but also civilian residential areas were targeted. According to local sources, a large number of civilians lost their lives.
