It was announced that the Pope's salary is a quite modest fee of 2,150 pounds. This is much less than the average monthly wage in the UK, which is 2,460 pounds.
The Vatican covers expenses such as housing, food, transportation, and even health insurance.
WHO IS POPE PREVOST?
69-year-old Robert Francis Prevost was born in Chicago, USA, and served in Peru for twenty years, where he became a bishop and was naturalized as a citizen. Until the death of Pope Francis, Cardinal Prevost managed one of the most influential offices in the Vatican; the office that selects and governs bishops worldwide.
In 2023, he was appointed first as an archbishop and then as a cardinal by Pope Francis.
A member of the Order of Saint Augustine, Prevost resembles Francis in his commitment to the poor, immigrants, and meeting people where they are. In an interview with the Vatican's official news site last year, he said, "Bishops should not be little princes sitting in their kingdoms."
He earned a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He served in missionary work, parish priesthood, teaching, and as a bishop in Peru. As the leader of the Augustinians, he visited orders all over the world. He speaks Spanish and Italian.
