Gaza summit in Egypt: Which leaders will attend? Notable remarks on Erdoğan from Trump

Leaders from more than 20 countries will come together at the Gaza Summit to be held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

According to the Al-Qahera News channel, affiliated with Egyptian state television, security and logistical preparations are continuing at full speed in the city ahead of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

In a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, it was reported that the summit will be held this afternoon at the conference center under the name "Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit." The purpose of the summit was announced as "ending the war in Gaza, strengthening efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East, and opening a new page for regional security."

ERDOĞAN IS ALSO ATTENDING THE SUMMIT

It has been learned that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the summit to be held today. Erdoğan is planned to deliver a speech there and hold bilateral meetings with other leaders.

Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran used the following expressions in a statement on his social media account:

"Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will visit Sharm El-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, to participate in the 'Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace,' which will be convened regarding the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza, upon the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump. It is planned that our President will address the summit and also hold consultations with the leaders of the participating countries."

YILMAZ WILL ACT AS PRESIDENTIAL DEPUTY

Due to Erdoğan's visit to Egypt, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz will act as the Presidential Deputy.

The decree regarding Vice President Yılmaz acting as the Presidential Deputy has been published in the Official Gazette.

TRUMP IS GOING TO EGYPT

US President Donald Trump has also left the White House to attend the summit. Speaking to members of the press before boarding the plane, Trump stated, "The war in Gaza is over," adding that the ceasefire is holding and that peace will be discussed soon.

Stating that all parties are excited about the ceasefire that has come into effect in Gaza, Trump expressed that there is joy in both Israel and Muslim and Arab countries.

In his statement, Trump used the words, "Usually when one is happy, the other reacts; this time everyone is surprised and happy. It is an honor for me to be a part of this moment. A wonderful era is beginning, something that has never been seen before will happen."

"ERDOĞAN MADE A GREAT CONTRIBUTION"

The US President stated that Turkey played an important role in achieving the ceasefire in Gaza, saying, "Erdoğan made a great contribution. Because he is very much respected. Turkey has a strong army, it is a strong country."

MORE THAN 20 LEADERS WILL TAKE PART IN THE SUMMIT

According to the report by the official Egyptian agency MENA, more than 20 leaders will attend the summit, which will be co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Trump.

Among the participants are Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Republic of Cyprus leader Nikos Christodoulides.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, UAE Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Kuwaiti Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sabah are also among the names who will take part in the summit.

In addition, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, European Council President Antonio Costa, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Japan's Ambassador to Cairo Fumio Iwai will also attend the meeting.

According to Axios, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will also be present at the summit.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency claimed that no official from Iran would attend the summit.

According to the Qatari and US press, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia will also be represented at the summit, but no information was shared regarding the level of this participation.

It has been confirmed that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and European Council President Antonio Costa will also take part in the summit.

CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT IN GAZA

US President Trump announced in a statement on October 9 that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of the ceasefire plan in the negotiations conducted in Egypt.

Following the approval of the Israeli government, the agreement went into effect in the early hours of October 10.

It was announced that 67,682 people had lost their lives and 170,033 people had been injured in the attacks carried out by Israel on Gaza from October 8, 2023, until the date the ceasefire went into effect.
