Government crisis in the Netherlands: Prime Minister Schoof resigns
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has announced his resignation following the withdrawal of coalition partner the Party for Freedom (PVV) from the government.

Following an emergency cabinet meeting held after the PVV's departure from the coalition, Prime Minister Schoof told the press, "I am resigning because we could not find sufficient support in Parliament." Schoof described the decision by PVV leader Geert Wilders as "unnecessary and irresponsible" and stated that Wilders played a major role in the collapse of the government.
The Prime Minister criticized the PVV's stance, saying, "If one party lacks the will, you cannot continue to work together." Schoof stated that he had been in intense contact with coalition partners in recent days and believed this situation could have been avoided.
PREPARATIONS FOR ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER
Stating that it is not possible to re-establish the government, Schoof announced that new elections are planned for November. He said that necessary steps would be taken regarding major issues the country is facing, such as the housing crisis, the economy, security, and immigration, and that support would be sought from Parliament.
OPERATION OF THE CARETAKER GOVERNMENT
Noting that ministers from the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), the New Social Contract (NSC), and the Farmer-Citizen Movement (BBB) will continue their duties until a new government is formed, Schoof said, "It is important for ministers to continue their duties during this period of intense geopolitical tensions and national issues." While the PVV is not expected to take part in the caretaker government, it is planned that other coalition parties will make temporary appointments to the vacant ministries.
The Netherlands will continue with a caretaker government without the PVV.
