Following the general elections in Armenia, the first session of the new parliament was held, and the current government led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resigned. This step was taken to allow for the formation of a new cabinet as mandated by the country's constitution. The official decision regarding the resignations came into effect with the signature of President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Prime Minister Pashinyan, who had previously made an assessment on the matter, had shared his plans regarding the government's resignation with the public. Pashinyan had announced that they would leave office along with the cabinet, stating, "This is our government's final meeting. We will resign on Sunday."
Following the mass resignations that took place on Sunday, August 2, the first session was held in the new parliament, which was shaped by the results of the elections held on June 7. In the aforementioned election, the Civil Contract Party secured a majority in parliament by receiving 49.74 percent of the votes and obtained the mandate to form the new government that will lead the country.
