Greece's military shelter plan for Aegean islands: Anti-UAV systems to be deployed

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias conducted inspections of military bases and naval facilities in the Aegean and Crete as part of the country's defense modernization efforts.
According to the Kathimerini newspaper, Dendias was accompanied during his visits by Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitrios Choupis and Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Dimitrios Kataras. As part of the program, naval bases on six strategically important islands were inspected.
Within the framework of the multi-layered air defense network "Achilles Shield" that the Athens administration plans to implement, it is envisioned that anti-UAV defense systems and electronic warfare capabilities will be placed on islands close to Turkey.
It was reported that during the visit, Dendias also signed decisions regarding the establishment of three new special operations reserve units. It was stated that two of these units will consist entirely of reserve personnel and will be deployed in the Athens region, Central Macedonia, and the Evros region on the border with Turkey.
It was stated that the Greek Ministry of Defense aims to create a force consisting of approximately 150 thousand combat-ready reserve personnel through the expansion of training activities and structural reforms.
