Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis calls on Israel for a 'two-state solution'
In his address to the 80th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated, "I say to my Israeli friends that if they insist on a path that destroys the possibility of a two-state solution, they risk losing their remaining allies."

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the 80th UN General Assembly. Stating that the world is currently witnessing the highest number of armed conflicts since the end of the Second World War, Mitsotakis said, "If we do not act, the landscape on the horizon is even darker. A landscape of a future filled with increasing violence and deepening instability. The place that requires the most urgency is the Gaza Strip."
Mitsotakis stated, "No military objective, no matter how valuable, can justify the death of thousands of children, the forced displacement of more than a million Palestinians within the Gaza Strip, and the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people."
"IT WILL HARM ISRAEL'S INTERESTS"
Noting that Greece and Israel are strategic partners but that this does not prevent them from speaking openly and sincerely, Mitsotakis said, "Continuing to take steps in this direction will harm Israel's own interests and lead to the erosion of international support. I say to my Israeli friends that if they insist on a path that destroys the possibility of a two-state solution, they risk losing their remaining allies."
"CARRIES THE RISK OF CREATING IRREVERSIBLE SITUATIONS"
Emphasizing that Greece will continue to advocate for a two-state solution that envisions the establishment of a sovereign, democratic, and sustainable Palestinian state, Mitsotakis said, "However, we must be clear and precise about a roadmap to achieve this difficult goal. Israel's actions in the West Bank carry the risk of creating irreversible situations on the ground. What is most necessary today is to stop the unnecessary killing of people and to guarantee the delivery of large-scale and sustainable humanitarian aid to Gaza."
CEASEFIRE CONDITION
Touching upon the war in Ukraine, Mitsotakis said, "We stand unconditionally and decisively by Ukraine in its struggle. We also appreciate the efforts of US President Donald Trump to achieve peace. A real peace process cannot begin without an immediate ceasefire. There can be no peace formula without Ukraine at the table. Under no circumstances can borders drawn by force be accepted."
