It has been reported that gunfire was heard near the Presidential Palace in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad.
Following the gunfire heard around the palace, palace sources shared information that a vehicle carrying armed individuals attempting to enter the compound was intercepted by presidential guards, the occupants were neutralized, and the situation has been brought under control.
After Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno lost his life on the front lines in April 2021, his 37-year-old son, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, dissolved parliament and established a military transitional council. Itno was elected president in the election held on May 6, 2024, receiving 61 percent of the vote.
In Chad, approximately 8 million voters went to the polls for legislative and municipal elections on December 29, 2024.
