Hakan Fidan answers 'that' question: Will Turkey support Ukraine's NATO membership?

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan shared his views on Ukraine's NATO membership in an interview. Fidan stated that they respect Ukraine's desire to join the alliance but that the process must be evaluated realistically.
Emphasizing that the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership should be addressed not only with the goal of joining the alliance but also from the perspective of ensuring the country's security, Fidan reported that Turkey is in consultations with its European partners and Ukrainian officials on this matter.
Speaking to Bloomberg television, Fidan stated that Turkey has adopted a balanced and realistic stance regarding Ukraine's NATO membership process and used the following expressions:
''This demand from Ukraine is important not just for the sake of NATO membership, but also to guarantee the security of its country. We have nothing to say against Ukraine wanting to be a NATO member, but we have to be very realistic. This is our official stance, as announced by our President.''
In response to a question regarding how previous US administrations viewed Ukraine's accession to NATO, Fidan replied, ''I am not sure if the previous administration was in favor of Ukraine joining NATO either. Therefore, I do not think there is a new policy on this matter.''
Fidan added that Ukraine's NATO membership should be evaluated within the framework of dynamics in international relations.
