In a statement made by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, it was reported that 2 more hostages held in the Gaza Strip were released following mediation by Qatar and Egypt.
RELEASED FOR HUMANITARIAN REASONS
The statement, which identified the released hostages as Israeli citizens Nurit Yitzhak and Yocheved Lifshitz, noted that the group had intended to release these hostages last Friday, but that Israel did not accept it. The statement further conveyed that the 2 hostages were released for humanitarian and medical reasons.
Hamas had previously released an Israeli mother and her 2 children, as well as a US citizen mother and her daughter.
