Former Marine Sergeant Brian McGuinness, a member of the CodePink group known for its peace movements in the US, staged a protest during a hearing at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., to protest potential military operations against Iran. During his protest, McGuinness stated, “Please stand up for America, no one wants to fight for Israel anymore,” and added, “Palestine will be free.”
Two security officers in the hall attempted to remove McGuinness by force. However, during the resistance shown by the former soldier, his arm became trapped in a door and was broken.
The moment of the incident was recorded by CodePink members and shared on their social media accounts. In the footage, the sound of McGuinness’s arm breaking can be heard clearly, and some participants can be seen reacting with the words, “You broke his arm.”
In a statement released by CodePink, it was stated: “Former Marine Sergeant Brian McGuinness raised the voices of millions of Americans in Congress: We do not want a war with Iran for Israel. Security guards dragged him out using force and broke his arm. Veterans are speaking up. The American people do not want this war.”
Additionally, it was noted that another person in a suit assisted security forces in removing McGuinness from the hall during the incident. Some protesters claimed that this person was US Senator Tim Sheehy. Following the incident, it was observed that Sheehy quickly returned to the hall and took his seat.
