The status of Hashem Safieddine, seen as the successor to Hassan Nasrallah, remains uncertain following an Israeli strike on an underground bunker in the Dahiyeh district south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Thursday.
According to a report by the Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera, Lebanese security sources stated in a statement today that it has not been possible to establish contact with Safieddine since yesterday.
The unnamed sources said that rescue teams have been unable to scan the area due to ongoing Israeli strikes.
While Israeli media reports that Israeli security officials are becoming increasingly confident that Safieddine has been killed, Hezbollah has not made any statement regarding Safieddine since the attack.
