Lecce has announced that manager Roberto D'Aversa's contract has been terminated following his attempt to headbutt Hellas Verona forward Thomas Henry during Sunday's match.

In a statement on Lecce's website, it was stated: "Following the events that occurred at the end of the Lecce-Verona match, Lecce announces that it has relieved manager Roberto D'Aversa of his duties. We thank our coach and his staff for their work."

Tensions escalated further after the final whistle of the match, in which Verona defeated the hosts Lecce on Sunday. The visiting team's forward, Henry, argued with Lecce defender Marin Pongracic in the final minutes and confronted D'Aversa after the final whistle.

The Italian tactician attempted to headbutt the French player. The referee showed both individuals a straight red card.

Lecce had condemned their manager's post-match behavior, while D'Aversa had claimed that the Hellas Verona forward had 'provoked' him.
