Host city for NATO's 2027 summit announced

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke to members of the press at a year-end review meeting. In addition to many other topics, Rama made statements regarding the summits and international meetings his country will host.

Stating that Albania is a "respected and appreciated country in the international arena," Rama reminded that his country will host the European Political Community (EPC) summit on May 16, 2025.

TIRANA TO HOST NATO

Rama said, "What is even more incredible is that we will host the NATO summit in Tirana in 2027. We have begun working with NATO on this."

Stating that the US President will also attend the NATO summit planned to take place in Albania, Rama added, "The arrival of the US President and all NATO leaders in Tirana is also a very clear message to everyone regarding Albania's new political position in the international arena. We are a small country, we have a modest weight, but today, we are treated with more respect than ever before in our history."

TIKTOK BANNED

Regarding the decision to ban the Chinese social media platform TikTok in Albania for at least one year, Rama said, "We are not backing down from the decision we have made," and announced that the implementation process for the ban would begin within 6 to 8 weeks.

Referring to a nationwide survey on the matter, Rama added that the ban decision was supported by more than 90 percent of parents.

The Albanian government had announced that TikTok would be banned in the country for at least one year starting in 2025, following debates in the country after a 14-year-old child was killed by a peer on November 18 following an argument that started on social media.
