Houthis agree to temporary ceasefire
Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York announced that the Houthis in Yemen have agreed to a temporary ceasefire to allow tugboats and rescue ships to reach the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, which is still on fire following an attack on August 23 in the Red Sea.

As the fire on the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, which was attacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea on August 23, enters its 5th day, Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York announced that the Houthis in Yemen have agreed to a temporary ceasefire to allow tugboats and rescue ships to reach the oil tanker.
In a statement issued by Iran's UN mission, it was stated, “Several countries reached out to the Houthis and requested a temporary ceasefire to allow the entry of tugboats and rescue ships into the incident area. Considering humanitarian and environmental concerns, the Houthis have agreed to this request.”
The Sounion was first attacked on August 21 and lost its engine power following the strike. The crew was rescued by EU forces in the region after issuing a distress call. The crew was later transported to Djibouti. A fire broke out on the ship following a second attack on August 23. The Sounion is the third ship operated by the Greece-based Delta Tankers to be targeted by Houthi attacks this month.
