Houthis strike US ship in the Red Sea

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has announced that a ship off the coast of Yemen was struck by a missile.

According to a report by AA, the statement from the UKMTO indicated that the captain reported the ship had been hit by a missile near the Yemeni city of Aden. The statement advised vessels in the vicinity to transit with caution and to report any suspicious activity to the organization.

ATTACK ON SHIP BY HOUTHIS

According to a report by Reuters, the British maritime security firm Ambrey announced that a US-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged ship was struck by a missile near the Gulf of Aden. Ambrey stated that the Houthis fired 3 missiles, two of which fell into the sea before reaching the ship.

It was reported that a fire broke out on the ship following the missile attack, while no information was shared regarding any injuries or loss of life.

Reuters also reported that the sound of an explosion was heard near Yemen's Hodeidah International Airport immediately after the US ship was targeted by the missile.

US CONFIRMS THE ATTACK

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that a ballistic missile fired from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen struck the US container ship "Gibraltar Eagle." CENTCOM made a statement regarding the attack on its X social media account.

The statement said, "At approximately 4:00 p.m. Sanaa time, Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. The missile struck the Marshall Islands-flagged, US-owned and operated container ship 'Gibraltar Eagle'."

The statement noted that there were no injuries and the ship did not sustain significant damage, adding that the vessel continued its voyage. The statement also reported that earlier in the day, US forces detected a ballistic missile fired toward the Red Sea, which failed in flight and impacted on land in Yemen, with no injuries or damage reported.
