How the cartel leader's location was discovered revealed

While unrest continues across the country following the death of Nemesio Oseguera, nicknamed "El Mencho," the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) who was killed in Mexico yesterday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Mexican Defense Minister Ricardo Trevilla Trejo held a joint press conference. Minister Trejo stated that the operation against El Mencho was conducted with US support, saying, "We also utilized US agencies and intelligence services, and through this, we were able to dismantle El Mencho's information networks and continue the operation. As you know, the intelligence process is very complex. It requires a lot of time. It is necessary to collect numerous clues and information from various sources."

Explaining that they reached El Mencho's hideout by tracking his girlfriend, Minister Trejo noted that the identity of El Mencho's girlfriend was determined through another individual. Stating that El Mencho's girlfriend was followed to a property in Tapalpa, located in the state of Jalisco, Minister Trejo said, "On February 21, the woman left the property, and information was received that El Mencho was staying at that location."

Stating that the green light was given for the operation following this information, Minister Trejo announced that in addition to El Mencho, 8 other cartel members were neutralized, noting that there was a violent clash between security forces and cartel members. Trejo also reported that ammunition and missile launchers were seized during the operation.

The cartel had responded to the operation with acts of violence

Mexican security forces had carried out a military operation in the city of Tapalpa, located in the state of Jalisco, to capture Nemesio Oseguera, nicknamed "El Mencho," the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The Mexican Ministry of Defense had announced that 4 cartel members were killed at the scene during the clash, and 3 cartel members, including El Mencho, lost their lives while being transported by air to Mexico City. It was reported that 2 cartel members were captured alive and 3 security personnel were injured.

Following El Mencho's death, members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), who set vehicles on fire in many cities, attacked the Guadalajara International Airport. It was reported that cartel members engaged in clashes with security forces.
