Identity of suspect in US synagogue attack revealed

Authorities reported that the attacker, who was neutralized following armed intervention by security guards at the synagogue, was 41-year-old Ayman Muhammad Ghazali, a Lebanese-born naturalized US citizen.

An unnamed US official stated that four members of Ghazali's family lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon last week.

According to the official, Ghazali's brothers, Qasim Ghazali and Ibrahim Ghazali, were killed in the attack, which took place during iftar hours on March 5. It was noted that Ibrahim Ghazali's children, Ali Ghazali and Fatima Ghazali, also lost their lives in the same attack, while his wife was injured.

According to US Department of Homeland Security data, Ghazali obtained a visa by marrying a US citizen in 2011 and settled in the US that same year. It was stated that Ghazali became a US citizen in 2016.

A synagogue official told members of the press that there were approximately 140 people in the synagogue at the time of the incident, 106 of whom were children. Michigan's Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said one of the security guards was injured by the vehicle that crashed into the synagogue and is receiving treatment at a hospital. The sheriff announced that there were no other victims or injuries in the attack.
