German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has warned that the return of Syrian doctors working in Germany to their home country following the fall of the Assad regime would seriously affect Germany's healthcare system.
Faeser stated in a press conference following a cabinet meeting, "If all Syrians working here were to leave our country, gaps would emerge in all areas of the healthcare sector.
It is important for us to offer those Syrians who are here, who have a job, who are integrated, who have not committed crimes, and whose children go to school, the opportunity to stay here and contribute to our economy."
Supporting Faeser's statements, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach emphasized that more than 6 thousand Syrian doctors work in Germany and that they are "indispensable" for healthcare services.
Meanwhile, Germany recently suspended the asylum applications of more than 47 thousand Syrians.
