Putin spoke at the Russian Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov, known as a closed city in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region.
Explaining that they held a productive meeting with Trump in the state of Alaska, Putin said, "Contacts are continuing at the level of our ministries and companies. I believe that the first steps taken are just the beginning of the full improvement of our relations."

Pointing out that the course of relations depends on Western countries, Putin said, "As for our relations with the US, they are at an extremely low level since the Second World War. However, I think the light at the end of the tunnel has become clearer with the arrival of Trump in office."
Putin said that it was not Russia that started the war in Ukraine, and that the war began with attacks on the Donbas region.
Underlining that issues related to Russia's defense capability are significantly linked to the country's northern waters, Putin described the ability of Russian submarines to travel in these regions by disappearing from radar as a "strategic advantage."
Putin also stated that they evaluated the possibilities of cooperation with the US in Alaska and the Arctic region.
