Indian Prime Minister Modi: God is guiding me

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that he was sent to the world by God for a purpose.

Modi, who has been making headlines with his unusual statements during India's ongoing general elections, has once again drawn attention with his latest interview with the local NDTV news channel.

Expecting to emerge victorious from the elections that will conclude in the country on June 1, Modi said, "I believe that God (Parmatma) has sent me for a purpose. When the purpose is achieved, my task will be finished. That is why I have completely dedicated myself to God."

I CANNOT COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY

Arguing that God guides him, Modi said, "He does not show His cards. He makes me do things. I cannot communicate directly with Him to ask what is next."

Opposition Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi commented on Modi's remarks, saying, "If an ordinary person had said what Modi just said, they would have been taken to a psychiatrist immediately."

In a previous interview, Modi had also stated, "When my mother was alive, I believed I was born biologically, but after my mother passed away, based on the experiences I had, I became convinced that I was sent by God."

Meanwhile, according to the Hindu faith, Parmatma means the "absolute" or "supreme self."

ELECTIONS IN INDIA

Within the scope of the elections in India that began on April 19 and will continue until June 1, approximately 968 million voters are casting their ballots to determine the members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the federal parliament.

Prime Minister Modi, who emerged victorious in the last elections, is competing against a broad coalition where many opposition parties have gathered under the name "Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)," with his own Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading the "National Democratic Alliance (NDA)."

Voters are casting their ballots in 7 phases as part of the general elections covering 28 states and 8 special administrative regions known as "Union Territories" in the country, on April 19 and 26, as well as May 7, 13, 20, 25, and finally on June 1.

The election results will be announced on June 4.
