Interesting comment from Russia on US Venezuela operation: Illegal but consistent

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev evaluated US President Donald Trump's military operation against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. While Medvedev argued that the decisions taken were not legally valid, he stated that Trump's moves in Venezuela showed continuity and were implemented in a planned manner.

Medvedev stated that the US has long targeted the natural resources of other countries, expressing that Washington's main goal in Venezuela is to establish dominance over oil and similar wealth. He commented, "Trump does not even feel the need to hide these goals."

Medvedev added that the US no longer has the right to criticize Russia. Emphasizing that the methods of Trump and his team are clearly against the law, Medvedev stated that, nevertheless, the US administration is acting in line with its national interests. For this reason, he argued that these policies are consistent within their own logic.

In recent days, explosions and aircraft sounds were recorded by citizens at night in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. Following the events, Venezuelan officials claimed that the US was behind the attacks carried out against civilian and military facilities in the country.

US President Donald Trump announced that Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores had been removed from the country and that they had launched a large-scale operation against Venezuela. Furthermore, US Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that a lawsuit had been filed in the US against Maduro and his wife on various charges, and that Maduro was being held responsible for various serious crimes, primarily drug terrorism and cocaine trafficking.

The Venezuelan administration, following these developments, called on the international community to condemn the US. While some countries harshly criticized the attacks, some other states supported the Washington administration with their statements.
