International Court of Justice announces Israel ruling in The Hague

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has issued its ruling on South Africa's request for Israel to halt its attacks in the city of Rafah in Gaza.

Details of the ruling are as follows:

In the public session, the statement read by the President of the Court, Lebanese Judge Nawaf Salam, stated, "Israel has caused the deaths of too many people in Gaza."

Judge Salam stated in the announcement, "As of May 18, according to UN data, 800,000 civilians have been displaced in Rafah due to Israel's attacks. The situation in Rafah is now classified as a humanitarian catastrophe. Israel must fulfill its responsibilities."

Judge Salam decided that the previously taken measures were insufficient and that Israel must immediately halt its military operation. Salam stated that it has been ruled that the Republic of South Africa's report regarding the progress of the measures requested from Israel must be submitted to the ICJ within one month.

Announcing the court's decision, Salam said, "Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah Governorate which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part."

Stating that "Israel has bombed Rafah for weeks, and the infrastructure is on the verge of collapse," Salam demanded the immediate and urgent implementation of the provisional measures, which were adopted by a vote of 13 to 2.

The ICJ, by a vote of 13 to 2, demanded that the Rafah Border Crossing be kept open and that aid be delivered through the Rafah Border Crossing.

Salam said, "Israel must keep the Rafah crossing open to ensure the unhindered provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance (in Gaza)."
