Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with US President Donald Trump's special representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in New York, where he was attending the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
Iranian State Television announced that the meeting took place at the "insistent request" of the US officials. The report stated that Araghchi conveyed Tehran's conditions for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to the Washington side.
The conditions conveyed included the immediate lifting of the naval blockade imposed by the US, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the cessation of hostilities in all areas where the "resistance front" is present.
The contact in New York was recorded as the first high-level face-to-face meeting between the two countries since the clashes that resumed following the agreement signed between Tehran and Washington in June.
US President Donald Trump, in a statement made during the day, said that US officials held a meeting with representatives of the Iranian delegation in New York that lasted approximately three hours and that the contact "went very well."
