Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated in an interview with the official news agency IRNA, "As a result of the consultations held, it has been decided that Muscat will continue to host the second round of talks, which will take place on Saturday, April 20."
US President Donald Trump, who unilaterally withdrew his country from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month calling for direct nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Iran responded to the letter via Oman. Following the exchange of letters, Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12.
Following the talks, both the Iranian and US sides described the negotiations as "positive and constructive." The parties had announced that they would meet again on April 19. The US press had reported that the second round of negotiations would be held in Rome, the capital of Italy.
