Iran announces military exercises around the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) due to military firing exercises to be held in the airspace around the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the published notice, military firing exercises will be conducted along the Strait of Hormuz line between January 27-29.

It was stated that the military activities in question will be carried out within a circular area with a radius of 5 nautical miles, and that the airspace in the region will be considered restricted and dangerous from ground level up to an altitude of 7,620 meters (25,000 feet) for the duration of the exercise. Officials emphasized that aircraft passing through the region on the specified dates should take the NOTAM warnings into account.

The US had also announced it would conduct exercises

As tensions rise in the region, the US, which has been increasing its military buildup in the Middle East, had also reported that it would conduct an exercise in the coming days. In a statement made by the US Air Force Central Command (AFCENT), it was said, "AFCENT will conduct a readiness exercise lasting several days to demonstrate its ability to deploy, dispatch, and ensure the operational sustainability of combat air power across the US Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility."

It was stated that the exercise was being carried out to increase asset and personnel deployment capacity, strengthen regional partnerships, and prepare for flexible response practices across CENTCOM. The exercise in question was announced one day after CENTCOM declared that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships had arrived in the Middle East.
