Iran reacts sharply to CENTCOM's claim that 'US warships passed through the Strait of Hormuz'

While negotiations between Iran and the US are ongoing in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, military and political tensions between the parties continue.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has sharply rejected the US Central Command's (CENTCOM) statements that two US warships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

In the statement made by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters affiliated with the IRGC, referring to the remarks of CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, it was stated: "The CENTCOM commander's claim regarding the approach and entry of American ships into the Strait of Hormuz is categorically rejected.

The authority regarding the passage and movement of any vessel lies with the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

In the aforementioned CENTCOM statement, it was claimed that the US had begun the process of clearing mines allegedly laid in the region by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.

In this context, it was stated that two guided-missile destroyers belonging to the US Navy were conducting operations in the region.

The statement said, "The ships USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy passed through the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Gulf of Oman. This operation is part of a broader mission conducted to ensure the complete removal of naval mines previously stated to have been laid by the IRGC."

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper had stated, "Today we began the process of establishing a new transit line, and we will soon share this safe route with the maritime industry to promote the free flow of trade."

The statement also added, "In the coming days, additional US forces, including unmanned underwater vehicles, will participate in the mine-clearing efforts."
