Iran seizes $50 million worth of US oil!

Iran has seized at least $50 million worth of oil from the "Advantage Sweet" oil tanker, which is operated by a US company and was seized by Tehran last year, following a court order.

Patients who were unable to access necessary medication for treatment due to unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran by Western countries, led by the US, sought legal recourse. Following the disruption in the supply of drugs used in the treatment of epidermolysis bullosa (butterfly disease), the victims and their relatives filed a complaint against the US at the Tehran International Relations Court.

In the lawsuit filed, it was decided to seize the oil on the "Advantage Sweet" tanker, which belongs to the US company that was previously seized, to compensate for the damages of the butterfly disease patients.

Following the decision, Iran announced that it had seized the oil worth more than $50 million on the tanker.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In April 2023, the US seized a ship named "Suez Rajan" off the coast of southern Africa on the grounds that it was carrying Iranian oil and towed the ship to the Texas coast. In retaliation, Iran announced on April 27 that it had seized the "Advantage Sweet" oil tanker, which is operated by the US energy company Chevron and sails under the Marshall Islands flag.

The ongoing uncertainty regarding the ship in question had caused tensions to rise between the US and Iran. Following the incident, the US seized the oil carried by the Suez Rajan ship by court order and sold the oil in question.
