Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi: It is sad to see the Security Conference turn into a circus

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reacted to the Munich Security Conference and the European Union's (EU) stance toward Iran. In a post on his social media account, Araghchi said, "It is sad to see the Munich Security Conference, which is usually a serious event, turn into the Munich Circus when it comes to Iran.

This picture, where the show takes precedence over real substance, sends important messages. The EU seems confused, stemming from its inability to understand what is happening inside Iran.

Strategically aimless, the EU has lost all its geopolitical weight in our region. Germany, in particular, is leading the way in completely surrendering its regional policy to Israel. The general trajectory of Europe is, to put it mildly, dire," he said.

Araghchi argued that Europe has become ineffective in the current negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program, stating, "What does all this mean in practice? The paralysis and ineffectiveness of the EU and the E3 (Germany, the UK, and France) are evident in the dynamics shaping the current talks on Iran's nuclear program. Europe, once a key interlocutor, is no longer present. Instead, our friends in the region are much more effective and helpful than an empty-handed and sidelined E3," he added.

Invitation to Iran had been withdrawn

An invitation had initially been sent to Araghchi for the 62nd Munich Security Conference, held in Germany between February 13-15 this year; however, the conference organizers withdrew the invitations for Araghchi and other Iranian officials, citing the protests in Iran and the security forces' harsh crackdown on the demonstrations.

The Berlin administration had also stated that there were reports of thousands of people losing their lives during the intervention in the demonstrations held in Iran, and announced that they were against inviting Iranian officials to the conference due to the developments.
