Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi: The US security umbrella is full of holes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the Washington administration following US President Donald Trump's statements calling for other countries to send warships to the region for the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on his social media account, Araghchi said, "It has become clear that the much-touted US security umbrella is actually full of holes and, instead of deterring problems, it practically invites them."

Addressing Trump's statement that he expects various countries, including China, to support the call, Araghchi stated, "The US is now begging others, even China, for help to make the Strait of Hormuz safe. Iran calls on its brotherly neighboring countries to expel foreign aggressors, whose only concern is Israel, from their lands."

Trump's call for an international coalition

US President Donald Trump, in a statement on his social media account, had said that many countries would send warships to the region in coordination with the US to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Stating that he expects various countries, primarily China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK, to support this initiative, Trump had said that the US would continue its military operations against Iran and that they would "reopen" the Strait of Hormuz.
