Iranian official: Attack plan on three targets canceled following Ukraine's apology

Mohsen Rezaee, a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, announced that the Ukrainian government apologized for an attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea, and that following this development, Iran canceled its plan to strike three targets in Ukraine.

Rezaee stated that the Iranian Armed Forces had completed preparations to retaliate following the attack, which he noted took place on July 25. According to Iranian officials, one crew member had lost their life in the attack.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also reported last week that his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, had conveyed that the attack on the Iranian ship was "not intentional" and that Kyiv did not wish to escalate tensions.

In his statement, Rezaee also used harsh language regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Arguing that no sea route other than those designated by Iran would be permitted, Rezaee said that enemy naval vessels attempting to use "illegal routes" would be targeted.
