The statement included the words, "The Iranian people's demand for the regrettable punishment of the criminal Zionist enemy will be realized, with God's permission."

ATTACK ON IRAN'S CONSULATE BUILDING IN SYRIA

Israel carried out an airstrike on April 1 on the consulate building located within the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus. A total of 7 people, including 2 generals from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed in the attack.

Iran, which announced that it would quickly retaliate for the attack, also held the US responsible for the incident.

Following the attack in Syria, Iran announced on April 2 that it had summoned the Swiss Ambassador in Tehran, who represents US interests in Iran, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey a message to the US.

It was claimed in the Iranian press that the Tehran administration had informed the US via Switzerland that it would "strike Israeli targets."
