Iraqi Airways resumes flights between Najaf and Iran

Iraqi Airways has announced that reciprocal flights between Najaf Airport and airports in Iran have resumed. According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the flights were rescheduled following contacts with the relevant authorities.

It was stated that the resumption of flights took place following the initiatives of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and discussions held with authorized institutions.

The Iraqi administration had been in direct contact with Washington following the measures taken by the U.S. regarding flights by Iranian airline companies to airports in regional countries. The Baghdad administration was requesting that some Iraqi airports be exempted from these measures, particularly for humanitarian reasons such as medical treatment, education, and religious pilgrimages.

The Najaf Airport administration had announced on September 25 that all flights arriving from and departing to Iran were suspended until further notice in accordance with official instructions.
