The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that their air defense systems had detected and destroyed an Israeli military F-16 fighter jet during the night. According to the official statement, the aircraft, which was detected in central regions of Iran at 03:45 local time, was neutralized using next-generation defense technology. It was stated that the aircraft was an F-16 model and that the operation was carried out under the control of units affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard Air Force.
In a statement released by Israel at the same time, it was acknowledged that one of its fighter jets had been targeted by a surface-to-air missile fired by Iran. No details were shared regarding the status of the aircraft.
It is noteworthy that this latest development occurred following recent statements made by former US President Donald Trump regarding Iranian airspace.
Iranian officials maintain that the downed aircraft was hit directly. In the past, Iran had also claimed to have shot down a US F-35 fighter jet; however, these claims were not verified by the international community.
As tensions in the region escalate, this latest incident in the airspace is expected to further deepen the crisis between the two countries.
