Following the end of the Assad regime in Syria on December 8, 2024, Israel, which occupied parts of Syria and destroyed air defense systems through attacks, has approved new attack and occupation plans.

In a statement from the Israeli military, it was reported that Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour and situation assessment in the occupied Syrian territories with high-ranking commanders of the Israeli army.

It was noted that Zamir met with commanders and soldiers stationed in the region and approved plans for potential future attacks and defense.

Making a statement in the region, the Israeli Chief of General Staff drew attention to the importance of the area, claiming that they hold key positions and that continuing the occupation is important for Israel's security.

Israel had occupied the buffer zone adjacent to the Golan Heights, which it has held under occupation since 1967, on December 8, 2024. Israeli troops extended the occupation beyond the buffer zone, reaching as close as 20 kilometers to the capital, Damascus.
