According to a report in the Yediot Ahronot newspaper, Gallant made the statement during a meeting of the "Air Force Operations Command" near the Gaza border.

"IN THE END, HAMAS WILL NOT REMAIN THERE"

Gallant stated, "There is nothing that can stop the Israeli army. The operational aspect of the maneuver (the name Israel gives to its attacks on Gaza) consists of air capability and a ground operation. The ground operation in Gaza should be the last war there because after it, there will be no Hamas. This may take one month, 2 months, 3 months, but in the end, Hamas will not remain there."

The Israeli army had previously announced in a statement that it was intensifying its airstrikes to reduce the threats that Israeli forces might encounter in Gaza in preparation for the next phase of the "war" (the ground operation).
