Israel increases military presence on Syrian border following Assad's fall
Following the takeover of Damascus by jihadist groups, the Israeli army has seized the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the buffer zone between the Golan Heights and Syria. Israel has increased its military presence in the region and issued warnings to villages near the Syrian border.

Israel has deployed troops to the Golan Heights, which it currently occupies, and the buffer zone between it and Syria, following the takeover of Damascus by jihadist groups.
Following this, the Israeli army seized the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, located in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria.
Reports in the Israeli press stated that the Syrian side of Mount Hermon was captured by the Shaldag Unit of the Israeli Air Force without encountering any resistance.
The Israeli army also issued a warning for the villages of Ofaniya, Quneitra, al-Hamidiyah, Samdaniyah al-Gharbiyah, and al-Qahtaniyah in Syria, which are located near the Israeli border.
"THE AGREEMENT HAS COLLAPSED"
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited Mount Bental on the Israel-Syria border, said, "We are acting first and foremost to protect our border. For nearly 50 years, this area was controlled by a buffer zone agreed upon in 1974, namely the Agreement on Disengagement of Forces. This agreement has collapsed; Syrian soldiers have abandoned their positions."
