It has been reported that Israel has proposed a two-month pause in its attacks on the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
According to a report by the US-based news site "Axios," citing Israeli officials, it was noted that Israel has made a new "ceasefire" proposal to Hamas.
It was emphasized that the Tel Aviv administration has proposed a two-month pause in its attacks on Gaza in exchange for the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
The report stated that Israel conveyed the proposal, which does not include a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, through Qatar and Egypt, and noted that Israeli officials are awaiting a response from Hamas but remain cautiously optimistic that progress could be made in the coming days.
In the report, Israeli officials stated that if a hostage exchange agreement is reached, the plan would be to prioritize the release of women, men over the age of 60, and hostages in critical health condition in the first phase.
It was stated that subsequent phases would include the release of female soldiers, non-military men under the age of 60, Israeli male soldiers, and the bodies of deceased hostages.
It was reported that according to the proposed hostage exchange agreement, Israeli officials noted that Israel and Hamas would agree in advance on how many Palestinian prisoners would be released for each Israeli hostage, and that separate negotiations would then be held regarding the names of these Palestinian prisoners.
ISRAELI HOSTAGES IN GAZA
The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, citing "continuous violations against Palestinians and sacred values, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque," and took many Israelis hostage.
During the "humanitarian pause" in the Gaza conflict, which began on November 24, 2023, for four days and was later extended for three more, 81 Israeli and 240 Palestinian prisoners were released in exchange.
According to the Israeli military, there are currently 136 Israeli hostages still in the Gaza Strip.
