The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights advocacy organization in the US, has released its study regarding the preferences of American Muslims who voted in the November 5 presidential election.
The survey, prepared based on interviews with 1,575 people who went to the polls and cast their votes across the country, showed that American Muslims turned to a third-party candidate in this election.
According to the study, 53 percent of American Muslim voters who went to the polls across the US cast their votes for Green Party candidate Stein, while Republican Donald Trump received 21 percent and Democrat Kamala Harris received 20 percent.
According to the results in the state of Michigan, where American Muslims live most densely, 59 percent of American Muslim voters living there voted for Stein, 22 percent for Trump, and only 14 percent for Harris.
The preferences of American Muslims, who helped Democrat Joe Biden win Michigan by a narrow margin in the 2020 presidential election, were interpreted in this election as a "punishment" of the Biden-Harris administration for its complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza.
In a written statement regarding the study, CAIR National Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw stated, "Our latest poll shows that the reaction of American Muslim voters to the Biden administration's support for the war in Gaza played a vital role in their votes. As a result, there has been a very significant drop in Vice President Harris's votes compared to the Muslim votes President Biden received in 2020. Conversely, support for third-party candidate Jill Stein has increased significantly. President-elect Donald Trump has made progress with Muslim voters."
US President Biden won the critical state of Michigan in the 2020 election by a margin of only 154 thousand votes, and the votes of American Muslims in the state had a major impact on this success.
According to CAIR's post-2020 election poll, Biden had received approximately 70 percent of the American Muslim vote nationwide.
