Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni awarded 'Man of the Year'
Italy's far-right newspaper Libero Quotidiano has awarded the country's first female Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the 'Man of the Year' award.

The newspaper defended this award with the claims that "we chose someone who knows how to fight in times of war" and that she "won the war of the sexes and shattered the glass ceiling."
It was noted that the editorial in the newspaper was written by Meloni's former public relations manager.
Many opposition newspapers, however, slammed the title. A debate on sexism has begun in Italy. Many female politicians stated that choosing Meloni as "Man of the Year" for being a fighter stems from the perception that men are stronger.
"THIS IS A SUBMISSION"
Elly Schlein, a member of parliament from the center-left Democratic Party, said, "Today, a right-wing newspaper explained to us that politics and power are for men. I think this is a submission."
Elisabetta Piccolotti, a member of parliament from the Green and Left Alliance, also emphasized that this perspective is a reflection of the idea that "men are superior."
On the other hand, Giorgia Meloni, leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party, came to power after winning the elections last October.
