In France, a ticket purchased with a stolen card won a 500,000 euro jackpot.
Jean-David E., the Frenchman whose credit card was stolen, presented documents and receipts to the police proving that the card belonged to him.
HE SAID HE WOULD SHARE HALF OF THE JACKPOT
In a statement to the press, Jean-David said, "They wouldn't have won if it weren't for me, but I wouldn't have been able to buy the ticket if it weren't for them," adding that he could share half of the jackpot with the thieves.
La Française des Jeux (FDJ), the operator of France's national lottery games, announced that the person who won the ticket has not yet claimed the prize.
Jean-David's lawyer, Pierre Debuisson, noted that his client's wallet was stolen at the beginning of this month south of the city of Toulouse.
The lawyer stated that Jean-David spoke with an employee at the store where the ticket was purchased and learned that two people, who appeared to be homeless, had used the credit card to buy cigarettes and scratch-off tickets.
Stating that his client is ready to share the jackpot with the thieves and that the prize cannot be claimed after a certain date, Debuisson called on the thieves to contact them.
While it was noted that legal action could be initiated against the thieves if they apply to claim the jackpot, Debuisson stated that they would not be filing a complaint regarding the matter.
