According to a statement by the Japanese Ministry of Defense, a US Air Force V-22 Osprey military transport aircraft made an emergency landing at Hamamatsu Air Base in Shizuoka Prefecture after a warning light illuminated. No property damage or injuries were reported in the incident.
FLIGHT PURPOSE AND ROUTE UNCLEAR
Although it was stated that the aircraft that made the emergency landing is based at Yokota Air Base, no information was shared regarding the purpose or route of the flight. The Japanese Prefectural Government has requested that US Forces in Japan investigate the incident and take the necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of similar events.
CONCERNS OVER OSPREYS HAD INCREASED
In Japan, it was announced that V-22 Osprey aircraft were grounded for a period following an accident in November 2023 that resulted in the deaths of 8 US soldiers. In a statement made in December 2023, the US Air Force reported that hundreds of V-22 Osprey aircraft stationed in Japan had been grounded.
