Kamala Harris becomes the Democratic nominee in the US

US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the necessary support in the online balloting for the Democratic presidential nomination. Harris emerged as the frontrunner following the withdrawal of the current Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, ahead of the presidential election to be held on November 5.

Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison announced that the votes Harris received from delegates had surpassed the threshold and that the deadline for the election process was Monday.

In a statement following the completion of the voting, Harris said, "I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States." Harris's nomination is considered a significant development for the Democrats' election campaigns.
