Kamala Harris holds first campaign rally

Following U.S. President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race and his subsequent endorsement, Vice President Kamala Harris held her first campaign rally in Wisconsin.

Addressing a crowd of thousands in Milwaukee, Wisconsin—a key battleground state in the presidential election—Harris stated that if elected, her priorities would include combating child poverty, protecting union rights, ensuring affordable healthcare, and enabling people to "retire with dignity."

In her campaign speech, Harris framed the choice between herself and Republican nominee Donald Trump as a "choice between freedom and chaos." Harris said, "We believe in a future where every person has not just the opportunity to get by, but to get ahead."

Targeting Trump in her speech, Harris said, "I have taken on perpetrators of all kinds. Predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump's type."

Harris claimed that Republican nominee Trump is supported by billionaires and represents the special interests of individuals and corporations, while her own campaign puts "the people first." Arguing that her opponent Trump's policies are outdated and regressive, Harris said, "We are not going back. And I'll tell you why we're not going back. Ours is a fight for the future."

The Democratic politician pledged to pass risk-based gun seizure laws, also known as "red flag laws," to protect people from gun violence, as well as to implement universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. Stating, "We have work to do in the next 105 days. We have an election to win," Harris concluded her first campaign speech by asking, "Are you ready to fight? Yes, we will fight and we will win."
