Kamala Harris's vice presidential running mate has been announced

In the US presidential election to be held in November, the vice presidential running mate for Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris has been announced. If elected president, Harris's vice president will be Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Harris and Walz will appear together for the first time at a joint rally to be held in Philadelphia.

US Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate for the Democrats, Kamala Harris, has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate. Before being elected Governor of Minnesota in 2018, Walz represented the Democratic Party in the US Congress for 12 years.

Harris announced that Walz was her vice presidential running mate with a video of a phone call she shared on her X account. Harris shared the video in question with the note, "We will unite this country and we will win."

During a fundraising event, Walz, who said of Republican candidate Donald Trump, "He is just a strange, weird guy," saw his "weird" rhetoric directed at Trump and JD Vance resonate widely on social media and it was adopted by many Democrats, including Harris.

Walz served in the US National Guard for over 20 years and also worked as a high school teacher and assistant football coach. It is thought that Walz's down-to-earth personality could make him an appealing figure for independent and conservative voters as well.

According to commentary and analysis in the US media, Walz's selection as a vice presidential candidate "demonstrates the power of social media."

While Walz's name had not been at the top of the agenda for the vice presidency in recent weeks, his rise to prominence after becoming a phenomenon on social media with his "enjoyable" criticisms of Republicans propelled him to the vice presidential nomination.
