Katy Perry announces she will take a space flight: Wants to encourage reaching for the stars

Famous pop star Katy Perry has reached an agreement with the company Blue Origin to take a space flight. In a statement released by Blue Origin, it was noted that the NS-31 mission will take place in the spring. The journey, which will be carried out with the New Shepard rocket, will last approximately 10 minutes. In addition to Perry, Jeff Bezos's fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn will also be part of the crew.

Blue Origin emphasized that this mission will be the first all-female crew since the Soviet Union sent Valentina Tereshkova to space in 1963. The company stated, 'We hope this mission inspires the next generation of explorers.'

According to a report by Space.com, Blue Origin, which provided information that other famous names would be in the crew joining Perry's journey, shared that work is ongoing to plan the mission. The company also reported that in addition to Perry, Sanchez, King, and Flynn, there will be two professional astronauts on the mission. Astronauts Bowe and Nguyen will accompany the famous names on the mission.

KATY PERRY SPOKE ABOUT THE SPACE FLIGHT

American star singer Katy Perry spoke about the space flight. Expressing that she is excited to go to space with an all-female crew, Perry stated that she wants to encourage other women.

Pointing out that the journey will be a first in world history, Perry said the following:

''I am honored to be part of Blue Origin's first all-female crew. I hope this journey encourages my daughter and others to reach for the stars, both literally and figuratively.''

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket is designed to carry passengers and experiments to suborbital space. The rocket can reach an altitude of 100 kilometers, known as the Kármán line, which is accepted as the beginning of space. Passengers will be able to watch the Earth for approximately 4 minutes.

BLUE ORIGIN'S SPACE MISSIONS

Blue Origin successfully completed NS-30, the last flight before the NS-31 mission, two days ago. On that mission, entrepreneur Lane Bess, Spanish TV host Jesus Calleja, physicist Elaine Chia Hyde, reproductive endocrinologist Richard Scott, hedge fund partner Tushar Shah, and a sixth passenger whose name was not disclosed went to space.

Bezos's fiancée Sanchez underscored her hope that the flight would inspire people, stating:

''We hope this mission creates a lasting impact that will challenge perspectives on Earth, empower people to share their stories, and inspire future generations.''

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket has carried 52 people to space to date. The NS-31 mission will be the 11th crewed flight the rocket will perform.
