Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani spoke at a panel held at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in the US. Emphasizing that US leadership is needed to maintain peace in the Western Balkans, President Osmani said, "As President Trump has correctly stated several times in the last 2-3 weeks, there are constant efforts to destabilize the region. As President Trump also noted, Serbia is constantly planning to engage in aggressive actions and to attack. In Trump's own words, Serbia was about to take action, and of course, the target here was Kosovo."

Stressing that Kosovo continues to strengthen its defense capabilities, Osmani added, "At the same time, we have the constant support of the US. President Trump very clearly stated that he was the one who stopped this attempt by Serbia. This shows that there are constant destabilization efforts coming from our northern neighbor, a country that still lives in the past and views its neighbors as temporary states."

"SERBIA CONTINUES TO PLAY THE ROLE OF RUSSIA'S PROXY STATE"

Osmani said, "This is a typical Russian strategy. Serbia continues to play the role of Russia's proxy state and dance to Putin's tune." Emphasizing that US President Trump's statement referred to developments in recent weeks rather than previous events, Osmani said this was also confirmed in the security briefings she receives every day.

"WE RESOLVED THE ISSUE JUST AS A CONFLICT WAS ABOUT TO BEGIN"

US President Donald Trump, in a press conference following the NATO Summit held in The Hague, had stated that in addition to US peace efforts in Ukraine, he had recently prevented a nuclear war between India and Pakistan and was also working on the Kosovo-Serbia issue. Stating that the US had ended a 12-day war between Israel and Iran, Trump said, "We ended the conflict between Rwanda and the Congo, and they are coming to the White House on Friday to sign a document. We also resolved the issue with Serbia just as a full-scale conflict was about to begin."
