In a post on her social media account, President Osmani stated, "Today, I have made an official request to the government of Kosovo for the suspension of import tariffs on all U.S. products."
Pointing out that this step constitutes an important move to deepen economic ties with the U.S., which she described as their "closest ally," and to send a clear message to them, Osmani emphasized that her country is ready for a stronger relationship with the U.S. and has a clear vision that will make both countries stronger, safer, and more prosperous.
Stating her belief that this move will pave the way for new opportunities for job creation, technology transfer, and long-term economic growth, Osmani said, "This is not only an economic step, but also a foreign policy objective that reaffirms our commitment to the Kosovo-U.S. alliance, which is based on shared values such as freedom and decades of unwavering support."
Kosovo currently applies a 10 percent customs tariff on U.S. products.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree yesterday imposing customs tariffs on all products imported into the U.S. Within this scope, a 10 percent customs tariff is envisioned for Kosovo products.
