Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away at the age of 86.

Minister of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah issued a statement regarding the passing of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf.
Announcing the news of the Kuwaiti Emir's death on the country's official television, Amiri Diwan Minister Sheikh Mohammed noted that Sheikh Nawaf passed away at noon.
40-DAY MOURNING PERIOD DECLARED IN KUWAIT
A 40-day mourning period has been declared in the country following the passing of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In a statement issued by the Kuwaiti government regarding the matter, it was announced that official offices will be closed for 3 days.
The statement noted that a 40-day mourning period has been declared due to the death of Emir Sheikh Nawaf.
Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has become the new Emir of Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers announced that Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the country's new Emir.
WHO IS SHEIKH NAWAF AL-AHMAD AL-JABER AL-SABAH?
Sheikh Nawaf became the Emir of Kuwait after serving as Crown Prince for 14 years, following the death of his brother and predecessor, Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on September 29, 2020.
Sheikh Nawaf, who led the country for over 3 years in the position of Emir, was born in Kuwait on June 25, 1937.
Nawaf served as the governor of Hawalli, a city located just south of the capital Kuwait City in the east of the country, in 1962. Having dedicated great effort to the development of the city he governed, Nawaf began his tenure as Minister of Interior in 1978.
Serving as Minister of Defense in 1988, Sheikh Nawaf worked to develop units under the Ministry of Defense and to provide all modern weapons and military equipment.
Sheikh Nawaf served as Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in the first Kuwaiti government formed in April 1991, following the war to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation.
THE SPIRITUAL FATHER OF SECURITY
Described as the spiritual father of security forces and the true founder of the Ministry of Interior in Kuwait, Nawaf served as Minister of Interior twice, from 1978 to 1988 and from 2003 to 2006.
According to the official website of the Crown Prince's Diwan, former Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah proposed his brother Sheikh Nawaf as Crown Prince approximately one week after taking office in 2006, and the proposal was accepted by the parliament.
Prior to this position, Sheikh Nawaf served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior on October 16, 2003.
Sheikh Nawaf, the 6th son of Emir Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait for 29 years from 1921 to 1950, has 4 sons and 1 daughter.
