Latest situation in Lebanon where pagers were detonated: Prime Minister Mikati makes a statement

On September 17 and 18, Lebanon experienced attacks in which walkie-talkies and pagers used by Hezbollah members were detonated simultaneously, for which Lebanese officials hold Israel responsible.

So far, 32 people have lost their lives in the attacks, and more than 3,250 people have been injured.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati visited the Ministry of Health to monitor the treatment process of the injured.

Providing assurance that the second wave of the attack has ended and that no new injured individuals are arriving at hospitals, Mikati asked, "Where is the United Nations in what is happening in Lebanon?"

BEIRUT STREETS ARE SILENT

The simultaneous detonation of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon for two consecutive days has negatively affected routine life in the country.

Sadness and anxiety caused by the attacks prevail on the streets of the capital, Beirut.

Due to the attacks, education in schools has been suspended, and many official institutions remain closed.

While Beirut residents prefer not to go out, the few people on the streets show shock and bewilderment on their faces.

"ISRAEL DOES NOT DISTINGUISH BETWEEN STONE AND HUMAN"

A 50-year-old Lebanese man who did not want to give his name described the situation as "heartbreaking" and said that "Lebanese people should show solidarity and national unity regarding Hezbollah, which is being subjected to attacks regardless of their political views."

A young Lebanese man said, "We do not ignore Israel's guilt and responsibility for the attacks, because Israel does not distinguish between stone and human."

Stating that "Hezbollah will have a response," the young Lebanese man called on Arab countries to "be in solidarity with Lebanon against Israel's brutal attacks."

The young Lebanese man expressed that he is waiting for the speech that Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah will deliver on Thursday, September 19, regarding the reflections of the attacks on the border clashes between Hezbollah members and the Israeli army.

Another Lebanese man pointed out that the detonation of the walkie-talkies caused a great shock, evaluating the explosions as "an unprecedented attack, greater than the shock of the explosion at the port of Beirut."

Stating that he trusts in a possible response to Israel, the Lebanese man said, "We have accepted what happened, and they (Israel) must accept what will happen to them."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On Tuesday, September 17, simultaneous explosions occurred in pagers used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon.

While Lebanese officials hold Israel responsible for the incident, no statement has yet been made by Israel regarding the matter.

It has been observed that tension has increased in recent days in the clashes that have been ongoing on the Israel-Lebanon border since October 8, 2023.
